Biography
I conduct clinical 糖心传媒 on a variety of gastrointestinal cancers and provide care for patients with those cancers. We have trials of combined modality therapy (surgery +/- radiation +/- chemotherapy) on gastric, esophageal, pancreas and rectal cancers. We also perform phase I and II trials of biologically targeted agents as well as newer immunotherapeutics. In collaboration with a number of colleagues, we conduct translational studies analyzing novel imaging (e.g. contrast enhanced ultrasound and perfusion scans) and molecular biomarkers (e.g. CDX2 as a prognostic and predictive factor in colon cancer and matrix metalloproteinases as prognostic factors in pancreas cancer). Neuroendocrine tumors, pancreas, colorectal and gastro-esophageal cancers have been areas of particular 糖心传媒 focus with multiple therapeutic and translational studies devote to each. Examples of recently completed trials include a randomized phase III trial of a vaccine (algenpantucel) for resected pancreas cancer, phase Ib trial of anti-PD-L1 and separate phase II trials using PD-1 antibody for tumors with micro satellite instability and chemotherapy with angiogenesis inhibitors for advanced neuroendocrine tumors and gastro-esophageal adenocarcinomas. Currently active areas of study include combining immunomodulating antibodies in combination therapy and randomized phase II colon cancer trials of an antibody to interleukin 1 or a first in class agent known as RadioRx. Participation and leadership in NCI cooperative group protocols gives our patients access to the randomized trials that hope to establish new standards of care for a variety of GI cancers.

Dr. George Fisher is one of the best oncologist that I have had the pleasure of working with. He is patient, hears and addresses all concerns, and discusses plans going forward and explains why the plan is chosen. Also he lets you know what future options are available or may even become available should the current plan not work. He never seems rushed, and explains things in a way that is totally understandable. He will even show you before and after scan pictures, and discusses them with you. He assures that everything is in agreement, and Im made aware of the next steps to take.
I'm so grateful that Dr. Fisher accepted me as a patient. He provided me with a lot of information and support. God bless him and his family.

Dr Fisher is wonderful. He had to explain something to me that he thought would be hard for me to understand. I understood quite well, and I don't think he dumbed it down too much...just enough.
He also told me he was having trouble getting a test result from my previous provider. When I recommended that he make use of the tissue that was available from the surgery I just had rather than waiting to use the results from biopsy sample, which was very small, he didn't miss a beat in agreeing with me.
George Fisher is an excellent and reasonable Oncology specialist that has a calm demeanor. He is thoughtful and takes my concerns seriously. He gives me useful, practical advice on how to manage my monitoring protocol. He is also resourceful in helping me to navigate Stanford's system for receiving, reading, and posting results and the challenge's caused by software programs used by outside labs and imaging facilities that are not compatible with Stanford's.

After the clinical trial stopped working for my husband, Dr. Fisher pretty much told us that I cannot do anything about your condition anymore, so why don't you go to UCSF and ask them if they have clinical trials for you. He suggested for my husband to take Lonsurf in the meantime. Is this how Stanford treat their patients? No feeling of concern or compassion at all.
We came to Stanford for a 2nd opinion on a cancer diagnosis. Not only did Dr. Fisher give us a 2nd chemo to try (& hope) when he was I was taking notes he spelt the medication names and medical terminology for me.
Dr. Fisher is extraordinary in his handling of cancer patients like myself explaining everything in detail. He treats me as a family member and I rely on his expertise.
