Our Team
Meet our APP team
The Center for Advanced Practice (CAP) supports various APP led committees including Wellness, Grand Rounds, Newsletter, Mentorship, and Community Outreach, which all promote APP engagement.
The CAP programs and initiatives continue to transition to digital platforms to align with the digitally driven strategic priority.
The Mentorship and Coaching Programs are on digital platforms allowing for professional development support and mentorship of APP in any geographic location.
The ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ CAP team is a leader when it comes to programs for supporting APPs and few institutions across the nation have this caliber of APP led infrastructure.
CAP is focused on supporting and cultivating expertise so that APPs are empowered to provide outstanding and value-focused patient care.
Ìý
TheÌýonboarding stageÌýis the process of new APP integration, beginning at the time of new hire offer acceptance and continuing through the first 2 weeks of employment.ÌýThe content and instruction are generalizable across practice settings.
We hold a monthly APP specific new hire orientation.
TheÌýorientation stageÌýis a formal process to transition APP into specific role.ÌýÌýIt overlaps with onboarding and continues for the first 12 weeks of employment.
Learning and training is tailored to specific job role.
Ìý
All newly hired APPs with less than three years of advance practice experience are enrolled in a one-year APP Mentorship Program.
The APPs who meet the criteria gather quarterly for three-hour curriculum driven, interactive sessions..
These sessions are co-facilitated by the CAP leadership team and an experienced APP mentor.
- The sessions include a didactic experience to promote professional development and a focus group to facilitate sharing experiences with others new to the APP role.Ìý
In addition, all APPs have the option to coach or be coached by another APP.
The one-to-one pairing focuses on a topic requested by the coachee, and the paring is time bounded.
- Professional development and career ladder advancement topics are most requested.
- Additional training and resources are available to mentors and mentees, coaches and coachees on an online platform.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Ladder is a voluntary clinical leadership and career advancement program designed to recognize and reward professional excellence using our online platform.
The purpose of the Career Ladder is to acknowledge the clinician’s accomplishments in 3 broad areas including:
- Clinical Expertise
- Institutional Citizenship and Leadership
- Contributions to the Profession while demonstrating ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Core Values

All student and school requests should go toÌýgraduatestudents@stanfordhealthcare.org. If you accept a student, the school should include your name on the clinical request form.

Easy 4-Step Process!
- Universities send the student’s resume and clinical request form to SHC to the following email address:
graduatestudents@stanfordhealthcare.org. (The student can include your name if you’ve already accepted them!) - The Academic Liaison contacts preceptors based on the student’s desired clinical sites or confirms with the stated preceptor on the form. Potential preceptors evaluate the student based on the student’s resume and experience.
- The first preceptor to accept the student notifies the Academic Liaison.
- The Center for Advanced Practice helps the student complete on-boarding and voila! You have a student!
