The Marc and Laura Andreessen Emergency Departments at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ provide emergency and trauma care, available 24/7, 365 days a year, for patients of all ages.
The Emergency Services team treats an average of 350 patients each day, providing compassionate, equitable, and comprehensive emergency care.
With access to a wide range of sub-specialists available around the clock, our dedicated medical and nursing staff are committed to delivering the highest quality of care, ensuring that each individual receives the attention and treatment they deserve.
The Marc and Laura Andreessen Emergency Department at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ is recognized as a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons.
In addition to emergency services, they operate a 23-hour observation unit known as the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) ensuring seamless continuity of care.
For low acuity complaints and illnesses, Emergency Services staff an afterhours Walk In Clinic.

The Emergency Services nurses have been honored with the prestigious Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association for four consecutive years, recognizing emergency departments that excel in leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½.
In 2024, they were also awarded the BCEN Distinguished Award for Large Healthcare Organizations, celebrating the board-certified emergency nurses who exemplify excellence in their specialty practice.
This award acknowledges teams that have demonstrated exceptional dedication to advocating for, supporting, and promoting board certification within the emergency nursing community.
Together, these accolades highlight the commitment to outstanding care and the promotion of professional excellence in emergency nursing.
Additionally, the Adult Emergency Department was among the first in California to achieve Level II Geriatric Accreditation, underscoring the dedication to delivering exceptional, coordinated care for geriatric patients.

Who We Are
TheÌýMarc & Laura Andreessen Emergency DepartmentÌýat ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ offers a full range of emergency and trauma care, 24 hours a day, for patients of all ages.
The Adult Emergency Department is equipped with 66 beds, while the Pediatric Emergency Department offers 22 beds.
Additionally, the Clinical Decision Area contains 11 beds, ensuring we have the capacity to provide timely and effective care for patients of all ages.

The team also includes Adult Emergency Critical Care Nurses (ECCRN), who serve as vital resources for all critically ill patients in the Emergency Department.
Their role encompasses a blend of hands-on patient care, staff education, and acting as a liaison among the ICU team, ED physicians, the ED charge nurse, the hospital nursing supervisor, and the bedside ED nurse.
This collaborative approach ensures comprehensive care and support for our most vulnerable patients.
The Emergency department is supported by a dedicated team ofÌýPatient Access Representatives, Emergency Department Technicians,ÌýPatient Family Representatives, Unit Secretaries, Social Workers, Case Managers,ÌýandÌýChild Life Specialists.

Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)
The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is an emergency medicine observation unit designed to care for patients who are not well enough for immediate discharge but do not require a full inpatient admission.
Patients can be treated in this unit for up to 24 hours.
The CDU is managed by advanced practice providers (PAs/NPs) and clinical nurses, with oversight from emergency department physicians, ensuring that patients receive the appropriate level of care and monitoring during their stay.

With a team of emergency-trained physicians and advanced practice providers (PAs/NPs), patients can receive prompt attention without the need for an appointment.
The clinic is equipped to handle a variety of minor emergencies and illnesses, ensuring that patients receive quality care in a timely manner.
