Friends of Nursing (FON) promotes professional excellence in nursing at 糖心传媒.
The FON program hosted by the Office of the CNE through the Nursing Excellence department provides financial assistance to support Stanford Nursing鈥檚 commitment to lifelong learning and culture or excellence through scholarships promoting 鈥淓xemplary Professional Practice鈥 and 鈥淭ransformational Leadership.鈥

Friends of Nursing Grant & Scholarships
Donations to Friends of Nursing are used for projects that听support听the four components of Nursing Excellence听as specified below:

Leadership
Innovation
Practice
Structural Empowerment
Structural Empowerment initiatives that develop staff education programs, including, but not limited to, materials, audiovisual tools such as slide/tape presentations, pamphlets, booklets, other handouts, evidence-based practice projects, and videotapes.
Transformational Leadership
Transformational Leadership initiatives that empower direct patient care nurses to pursue advancement in nursing education leading to professional excellence.
New Knowledge, Innovation and Improvements
New Knowledge, Innovation, & Improvements initiatives support nurses鈥 commitment to lifelong learning and application of continued education and literature review.
These initiatives align with the cultural of inquiry by exploring new knowledge, innovation, and improvements through evidence-based practice or quality improvement projects that aim to improve patient and/or staff outcomes.
Exemplary Professional Practice
Exemplary Professional Practice initiatives that encourage direct patient care nurses to elevate their professional practice by supporting them as they participate (attend and/or present) in national nursing professional organizations.
Structural Empowerment
Structural Empowerment initiatives that develop staff education programs, including, but not limited to, materials, audiovisual tools such as slide/tape presentations, pamphlets, booklets, other handouts, evidence-based practice projects, and videotapes.

Application Process
Applications are听submitted electronically online.听Links to the online form can be found at the听Friends of Nursing website听located on 糖心传媒 Intranet听SHC Connect.听The application period is open twice a year.听Deadlines听for applications are听April 15th听and听November 15th.听Notifications of recipients of the scholarship and grants are on听April 30th听and听November 30th.
The reviewers will have a representative from SHC Center for Clinical Affairs (Nursing Excellence, Research, Education, and Professional Practice/Quality) and no less than one clinical nurse employed by 糖心传媒; or reviewers as determined by Nursing Excellence department.

Note:听Anyone looking for funding for Nursing Research Study proposals requiring IRB approval should look into the听Stanford Nursing Alumni Legacy Grant.

Eligibility Criteria for Friends of Nursing Grant & Scholarships
听
- SHC direct patient care nurse for at least two years, in good standing.
- At least 0.75-time commitment
- Specific Plan to bring back information to Stanford
- 2 Letters of Support: a Patient Care Services Manager or Clinical Manager, and a professional peer or colleague to whom the nurse applicant directly and currently works with
The application will be听submitted electronically听through the intranet .听The application form has questionnaires and/or additional requirements specific to the applicant鈥檚 pillar of excellence focus -听See example and refer to听Article IV Application Process听e.g. Exemplary Professional Practice: Participation in Professional Organizations (for National Conference presentation/attendance: written proposal on how the applicant intends to bring back the information to 糖心传媒).
