Shared Leadership Councils听(SLC)听empower inter-professional staff members to define, implement and maintain current practice standards and implement the vision and strategic plan for patient care.
Shared Leadership Council: Guiding Principles
The听Coordinating Council听provides oversight for organization-wide councils and unit-based councils in each department/unit chartered to:
- Ensure patient safety and promote quality service.
- Drive accountability to the level of frontline nurses and interprofessional staff.
- Provide a vehicle for shared decision-making.
- Engage interprofessional staff in innovative and collaborative problem-solving and strategy development.
- Encourage discussion and resolution of clinical or professional operational issues.听
Coordinating Council
The听Coordinating Council听coordinates, integrates, and monitors the activities of the councils and may mediate unresolved issues within or between councils.
- Assure Professional Practice Model (PPM) is operationalized through the council structure.
- Maintains oversight for setting priorities and delegating authority to councils utilizing established workflows.
- Timely response to issues that arise from the organization-wide and unit-based councils according to the level of urgency.
- Coordinate and monitor the council goal activities of the organization-wide and unit-based councils.
- Review Bylaws every two (2) years and make recommendations for amendment or revision and appoint Bylaws Taskforce as needed.
- Generate a review of the Shared Leadership Councils鈥 annual goals and accomplishments to be disseminated amongst shared听leadership membership, staff, and management.
Research & Innovation Council
The Research and Innovation Council (RIC) is responsible for the promotion of evidence-based practice to assure excellent patient care.
RIC fosters and supports investigative role development by creating a culture of clinical inquiry, by assisting staff with the 糖心传媒 process, and by disseminating the findings of investigative activities.鈥
- Build capacity for 糖心传媒 and innovation to advance clinical excellence.
- Provide guidance for evidence-based practice projects conducted by patient care staff.
- Develop educational, consultative, and supportive resources for staff to promote their roles as scientists.
- Respond to emerging clinical issues by providing resources and consultation.
- Recognize and disseminate the findings of investigative projects conducted by staff through posters, presentations, and publications.
- Continue alignment with Magnet expectations.
Magnet & Professional Growth Council
The Magnet, Professional Growth, & Development Council (MPGD) provides a forum to promote an excellent practice environment through evidence-based Magnet culture and values by fostering professional growth and role development.
The MPGD council recognizes staff contributions to the organization and optimizes the recruitment and retention of talented clinical staff that support the organization鈥檚 vision and strategic plan.
- Identify and promote opportunities for professional growth.
- Engage and promote programs that recognize interprofessional staff.
- Collaborate with interprofessional team members to promote healthcare careers.
- Serve as a resource for interprofessional staff retention.
- Identify and promote opportunities for enhancing and monitoring peer to peer accountability through recognition and elevation of best practices.
- Identify and promote interprofessional education and support a collaborative practice to foster a healthy work environment.
- Increase competency and involvement in activities to promote professional advocacy at the local and national level.
Quality & Informatics Council
The Quality and Informatics Council (QIC) continuously assesses and evaluates practice standards and guidelines through the review of data and advises the development of practice changes in accordance with regulatory requirements and evidence-based practice.
The council will coordinate quality improvement activities across patient care services and collaborate with interprofessional members and appropriate partners regarding informatics functionality and workflows.
- IIdentify 鈥渂est practices鈥 fostering validation and dissemination across appropriate units.
- Disseminate approved practice changes for further evaluation of practice issues with the Coordinating Council.
- Based on established workflow, will address defined issues raised by the clinical nurses and interprofessional members as referred by the Coordinating Council.
- Evaluate feasibility of practice changes and quality improvement initiatives through the review of quality data and determine their effects on clinical practice and outcomes.
- Establish an implementation plan for practice changes and quality improvement, with further customization by the unit councils, based on evidence and input from the other organization-wide councils.
- Provide feedback for further development based on the evaluation of practice changes.
- Develop expertise in process and data analysis for select quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor effectiveness of quality improvement initiatives and indicators.
- Promote accountability of staff in quality initiatives that improve patient care.听
Practice & Education
Council
The Practice & Education Council (PEC) ensures the adoption of evidence-based best practices to optimize patient, nursing, and organizational outcomes, and provides input for the revision and approval of policies, procedures, and standards of care.
PEC empowers interprofessional staff to implement and maintain standards of nursing practice consistent with evidence- based practice and regulatory requirements.听
- Maintain a forum for interprofessional discussion to effectively exchange ideas/new information and develop solutions to workplace challenges.
- Provide a mechanism to participate in analyzing staff learning needs and in planning to enhance clinical competency, ongoing knowledge, and skill development.
- Develop a structured learning tool and teaching process to translate education into practice.
Ambulatory Shared Leadership Council
The Ambulatory Coordinating Council (ACC) coordinates, integrates, and monitors the activities of the Ambulatory Service-Line Councils and may mediate unresolved issues within or between councils.
- Assure Professional Practice Model (PPM) is operationalized through the council structure.
- Oversight for setting priorities and delegating authority to councils utilizing established workflow.
- Review and prioritize Action Request Form (ARFs) according to shared decision-making domain categories.
- Timely response to issues and suggestions that arise from the Service-Line Councils.
- Coordinate and monitor the council goal activities of the Service-Line Councils.
- Review bylaws every two (2) years and make recommendations for amendment or revision and appoint a Bylaws Committee as needed.
- Generate a review of the Shared Leadership Councils鈥 annual goals and accomplishments to be disseminated amongst shared听leadership membership, staff, and management.
Executive Leadership Council
The Executive Leadership Council (ELC) provides leadership, coordination, planning and support for the implementation of the strategic plan in achieving the four pillars of clinical excellence: Operational Excellence, People, Patient Experience, and Quality/Safety.听
ELC provides a forum for nursing and interprofessional leaders in all departments to communicate about common issues related to professional practice, workflow, and the professional practice environment.听
- Supports Shared Decision-Making collaboration between frontline interprofessional staff and executive leadership and provides oversight in achievement of clinical excellence.
- Assures that the priorities of Shared Leadership Councils are in alignment with hospital and departmental strategic priorities.
- Provides the structure and guidance for the development, implementation, and oversight of initiatives related to nursing excellence embodied in the Magnet庐 model.
- Creates an organizational culture that promotes lifelong learning and development accountable for development of individual and team competence/performance.
- Promotes a practice environment that empowers nurses to provide patient-centered, safe, effective, timely, equitable, and efficient nursing care using evidence-based standards of nursing practice.听
Ambulatory Executive Leadership Council
The Ambulatory Executive Leadership Council (AELC) provides leadership, coordination, planning, and support for the implementation of the strategic plan in achieving the four pillars of clinical excellence:
- Operational Excellence
- People
- Patient Experience
- Quality/Safety.听听
AELC provides a forum for nursing and interprofessional leaders in all departments to communicate about common issues related to professional practice, workflow, and the professional practice environment.听
- Collaborates with senior administrative and health care professionals to establish the strategic plan, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans, and policies for the organization.
- Assures that the priorities of Ambulatory Shared leadership councils are in alignment with the hospital and departmental strategic priorities.
- Provides the structure and guidance for the development, implementation, and oversight of initiatives related to nursing excellence embodied in the MagnetTM Model.
- Creates an organizational culture that promotes lifelong learning and professional growth; accountable for the development of individual and team competence/performance.
- Promotes a practice environment that empowers nurses to provide patient-centered, safe, effective, timely, equitable, and efficient nursing care using evidence-based standards of nursing practice.
- Establish priorities for patient outcomes, processes, resources, and activities by evaluating and improving services provided through quality assessment and 糖心传媒.听
