Joseph C. Wu, MD, PhD, Director of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute and the Simon H. Stertzer, MD, Professor, became the 87th president of the American Heart Association. His yearlong term, which will include the AHA鈥檚 100th anniversary celebration, began on July 1st, 2023. During his long tenure of AHA volunteer service, Dr. Wu has been the chairperson of the AHA Research Committee and the Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences (BCVS), as well as a member of the national board. He is also actively involved in community programs in the Bay Area. As president, Dr. Wu will be the ambassador and public face of the AHA during its centennial celebration. He will guide the organization鈥檚 funding priorities, partnerships and public health messaging. The AHA president fosters regional, national and international collaborations to advance heart and vascular medicine.
