Many adults have misaligned eyes (strabismus) which can cause double vision, poor depth perception and social problems. ÌýStrabismus can be corrected in some cases with prisms ground into or attached to eyeglass lenses, injecting botulinum toxin into an eye muscle or eye muscle surgery. ÌýStrabismus surgery is generally performed on an outpatient basis by repositioning the eye muscles. ÌýIn some cases, fine adjustments are made to the position of the eye muscles in the recovery room to optimize the alignment of the eyes. ÌýMany studies have shown that strabismus surgery in adults results in not only improved visual function, but also improved self-esteem and confidence.
