Rehabilitation Services
Expertise
The Inpatient Rehabilitation team provides care for six patient units. Our specialists include occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech/language pathologists and rehabilitation aides.
Medical/Surgical
The Medical/Surgical team provides care on various patient units. These units include General Medicine, General Surgery, Geriatrics, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Oncology, Trauma, Ear, Nose, and Throat, Organ Transplant (liver and kidney), Plastic Surgery and Pain Management.
In addition, our team serves patients in the Stanford Inpatient Comprehensive Pain Program (SCIPP) to optimize their functional skills while medications are being adjusted. Providing rehabilitation to these patients requires a wide breadth of experience and an ability to manage multiple, complex conditions.
Orthopaedics
The Orthopaedic Rehabilitation team works with patients undergoing elective spine surgeries and total joint replacements.
Our comprehensive team assists you with improving range of motion and strength to maximize mobility and can often see you on the same day after surgery. This helps optimize function and decrease the length of your hospital stay. The team also serves patients admitted after trauma, as well as those who have undergone orthopaedic tumor removal surgery.Ìý
Critical Care
The Critical Care Rehabilitation team works closely with patients who need heart and lung transplants, as well as those with complex conditions, including a variety of pulmonary and cardiac disorders.
Our team specializes in mechanical circulatory devices, such as the left ventricular assistive device (LVAD) for destination therapy, bridge-to-transplant and total artificial heart. The team also actively works on clinical practices that create standardization and reduce patients' length of stay.
Neurology
The Neurology Rehabilitation team serves as part of a multispecialty care team, working with patients who have neurological impairments. Commonly treated conditions include stroke, traumatic brain injury and other traumas, spinal cord injury, Moyamoya disease, aneurysms, progressive neurological diseases and seizure disorders.
The team provides care for you early on in order to maximize independence, quality of life and function. Our specialists have extensive experience and use evidence-based practice and objective tests to assess and guide treatment sessions.
Oncology
The Oncology Rehabilitation team focuses on helping patients optimize their quality of life. They also specialize in returning you to your prior level of function by teaching energy conservation strategies, strengthening, and self-care, during and after treatment.
Our experienced staff supports each patient in reaching their personal goals. The multispecialty team involves families and caregivers, by teaching them helpful strategies to assist patients.Ìý
Psychiatry
The Psychiatry team consists of therapists that work with a multispecialty team in medical management, safety and community reintegration.
Physical therapists assess and treat functional mobility limitations for those patients that have complex physical impairments, in addition to psychiatric needs. Occupational therapists teach twice daily group sessions, as well as individual treatment sessions.
Sessions include functional assessments, coping strategies, activity-based therapy, time management and stress management education, communication skills, leisure activity development, self-care and return to work.
Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
