An epilepsy specialist (or epileptologist) is a doctor who specializes in neurology (brain, spinal cord, and nervous system care), epilepsy, and seizure disorders. These doctors have extensive experience using medications and other nonsurgical options to treat epilepsy and seizures.

A neuropsychologist is a licensed clinical psychologist with special training in neurology, psychology, and cognitive function. These doctors help the care team evaluate which parts of the brain are not working optimally and therefore may be involved with the seizures. They treat mental health symptoms related to neurological conditions, including epilepsy. They can provide counseling and prescribe medications for people with epilepsy who also have mental health symptoms, such as anxiety or depression.
