Polymyositis Treatment
Polymyositis Care: Our Approach
At Stanford, we take a comprehensive approach to treating polymyositis. Every person experiences polymyositis differently, with different symptoms that need to be addressed. We tailor a treatment plan that responds to your unique health needs.
Our Neuromuscular Program doctors collaborate closely with other specialties, such as the Immunology and Rheumatology Clinic, to bring you the care that best meets your unique needs.
Polymyositis Treatment at Stanford
The symptoms of polymyositis often can be well-managed using a variety of treatments, including:
- Medications like corticosteroids
- Immunosuppressant medications to lessen your immune system's attack on your muscle tissue
- Immunoglobulin, a blood product that reduces the immune system's attack on the body’s own tissues
- Physical therapy to improve muscle strength and assist with mobility
Polymyositis Clinical Trials
Stanford investigators regularly participate in ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ studies to increase their understanding of conditions like the inflammatory myopathies. As a ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials, such as those studying the use of biologic medications (genetically engineered drugs) to treat the symptoms of polymyositis.
