Causes of Colon Polyps
Experts are not sure what causes colon polyps. It is probably a combination of environmental factors and genetics. However, certain people are at higher risk for getting them, especially if you:
- Are 45 years of age or older
- Are overweight
- Have diabetes
- Have a family history of colorectal cancer or polyps
- Smoke or use tobacco
- Have advanced forms of certain gastrointestinal conditions, such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
