Types of Acoustic Neuroma Treatment
Your treatment for vestibular schwannoma depends on the tumor's size, how fast it's growing, and your overall health.Ìý
If the acoustic neuroma is not growing or growing slowly, we may not treat it now but monitor it for worsening symptoms. Our neurologists may recommend medications to relieve your symptoms.Ìý
Acoustic neuroma treatment often involves surgery to remove as much of the tumor as safely possible. Our neurosurgeons take a minimally invasive approach to preserve your hearing, balance, and facial function. Learn more about surgery for acoustic neuroma.
We use leading-edge robotic systems, including the LINAC and CyberKnife, to precisely deliver high doses of radiation to cancer cells, while protecting healthy tissues.
Tumors may grow after radiation and require surgery. In other cases, tumor remnants left after surgery may develop and need radiation treatment.
Having an inherited (runs in families) genetic condition called neurofibromatosis type 2 increases your risk for bilateral (in both ears) acoustic neuroma. Our genetic specialists provide testing to assess your risk and recommend treatment options for you. They can also screen your family members to determine their risks for acoustic neuromas.
