HIPEC stands for Hyperthermic Intraoperative Peritoneal Chemotherapy. It is a breakthrough therapy that delivers high-dose chemotherapy directly to the abdomen during surgery. A benefit of听HIPEC therapy听is that it focuses high-dose听chemotherapy听to areas affected by the cancer itself. Unlike conventional chemotherapy, HIPEC minimizes听medication听exposure to the rest of the body. That means the common side effects听of听chemotherapy 鈥� like hair loss, nausea, diarrhea, and changes to the skin or nails 鈥� may be avoided.
