Dental extractions may be performed for a variety of reasons including: Advanced Periodontal Disease, Impaction, Broken or un-restorable teeth, and or severely decayed teeth. With Dr. Girod you can discuss a future replacement for your teeth that will best suit you.

Wisdom teeth extractions

The average adult has 32 teeth, but can only comfortably accommodate 28. The other four are the third molars or "wisdom teeth," which erupt between the ages of 17 and 25. Wisdom teeth do not have to be removed if they align properly and the gum tissue around them is healthy. Generally, however, this does not occur. Impacted teeth, those that cannot erupt through the gum, due to overlying bone or adjacent teeth. These can cause numerous oral health risks including bacterial infections, disruption of natural teeth alignment, tumors, or cysts form around the impacted teeth causing destruction of jawbone and healthy teeth. Depending on the impaction and placement of the wisdom teeth, extraction can take a couple of hours with the use of general anesthesia.Ìý
